Africaaaa!!!

15 Aug

Back in 2008, I went on a 2-week safari in Africa. Upon returning home, I promptly short-circuited my memory card and lost all of my photos!! But I held on to the card, and today I FINALLY, miraculously, managed to recover my photos! Yayyy!!

So here are some highlights from my trip to Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda, and the Parc National des Volcans of Rwanda (where the mountain gorillas live!):

I’m so glad you found those pictures… you had such a great time and it shows! Crystal is still wearing — very proudly — her Jambo AFRICA! t-shirt.
Didn’t that elephant get awfully close to the tent?

Hee, that elephant visited us a couple of times; at one point, someone had left the top off of the campground garbage can, and he started digging through it for food. It was pretty undignified, for an elephant.

The scariest ones were the hippos, though – we had to space our tents out to leave enough room for them to pass through. I remember listening to them walking by at night, and praying they wouldn’t get too close! We kept absolutely NO food in our tents, to avoid attracting them.

Getting out to use the bathroom (ie the bushes) at night, in pitch blackness, was scary, too. Ah, memories!🙂
