Latest bulletin board

25 Oct

Happy Halloween! What do you think?

Here’s a closeup shot. As you can see (click to enlarge), I have a breakdown of trick-or-treating, some pics of the Village and DisneyWorld Halloween parades, and also a page on the Day of the Dead. Then a couple of comics, a crossword puzzle that I hope the kids will fill out, and two pouches with crossword puzzles for them to take. We’ll see if they go for any of this….

    Looks fabuloso! Especially good:
    1. interactive puzzles. Beloved by everyone everywhere.
    2. comparing day of the dead to obon.
    3. good use of vocab in bolded letters.
    4. great cartoon.
    5. great sign — do you find, as I do, that the more over-the-top a bulletin board is, as in decorations and stuff to read/do, the more it’s looked at and read? This is one place where it’s not better to be understated (which I often aim for).

Is your November board going to be Thanksgiving? Maybe you could divide it in half, and google Day of Mourning and see if, as I think I once heard, it’s really considered a sorrowful day for American Indians (who, by the way, I’ve also read, consider “American Indians” just as legitimate as “Native Americans,” since both names are western).
Would you also mention the Macy’s Day parade? Would you include a map showing Massachusetts and Fukuoka?
“village” explicitly, as it commonly means something other than “The Village in NYC.”
